As noted last week when Giveaway of the Day posted this application, myself and many others were having launching issues as well as most having registration issues (and more specifically registration ‘expiring’ after one day.) I could not review the software last week because I was one of the many who were plagued by this bug. After trying for a good period of time last week, and when the giveaway came up this week, trying some more, I finally found what was causing my issues (And hopefully others.)

It appears to be linked somehow to the software’s detection routine for drives. Read “here”: or the continued portion for the body of my comments made on Giveaway of the Day’s comments – Hopefully this can help the developer of the software revise this title to be a little more compatible, as well as help others who really want to use this title.

With that said – Today’s 15-Minute Review of the title will be either delayed until this evening or cancelled. Work has me tied up today and do not have much time to get to this title to review it (Though I may do an article at a later time due to the face that I have an interest in seewing if this application works with my PSP.)

A quick note: If my technique works for you, post in my forums or the comments at Giveaway of the Day which application/driver/etc you had to turn off to make it work – This will help the developers figure out the exact issue and hopefully rectify it.

First post on GotD:

Good morning all!

I’m glad that some of you have your issues repaired: Unfortunately, I am in the same boat as last time and it seems like there are a lot of others having the same issue (So far, see posts 10, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, 25, 29, 32, 43 and 52 are seeming to have similar issues;) When I click to run the application, it shows up in the task manager for a brief moment, and then disappears from the list. It does not show any splash-screen, main windows, etc. for any tactile response that it’s launching, only the Task Manager listing for a brief moment. This is the same issue that was had last week that myself and many others experienced. I hope for the developer to catch this part of the thread and maybe start brainstorming with us what the issue is. Here’s some of my specs for the developer to chew on:

WindowsXP Pro SP2 (With all current hotfixes and updates.) Current drivers for all my hardware (Did this for the last time it had issues) Athlon X2 3800+ (939) on Gigabyte K8N Pro-SLI (Up-to-date BIOS) 2GB OCX Platinum DDR Memory 2×80GB SATA drives in RAID0 – 1×160GB IDE drive Geforce 7800GT Samsung DVD-RW (Unsure of model right now)

If we can get some flow on this issue from the developer, I’ll post up more if need be; I do note that #10 does note he has a RAID setup as well.

With this said, there won’t be a 15-Minute Review today unless I (and the developers/community) can work out what is going on and correct it. I spent an hour and a half last week, and so far about an hour this morning to no avail.

Ideas/Comments? Please toss them up. Let’s see if we can get everyone running!

Second post to GotD:

A HAH!

I found the culprit for my system. I booted into Safe Mode, and found that for some reason Aimersoft DVD Ripper launched here. So I booted back up normally and tried the first logical step: Check all drives mounted one by one. I specifically disabled my NetGear SC101 ( http://www.netgear.com/Products/Storage/NetworkStorage/SC101.aspx ) drivers, turned off my WebDrive interface, and voila! It started working. So, for those having issues: Try disabling all software-mounted drive (Physical or not – Including if it isn’t currently mounted.) – Do them one at a time, starting with ones that replicate CDs and real drives first. Likely network mapped drives (Through the Windows interface) won’t be the cause, but you can try those too. I would also include software such as Daemon, Alcohol 120% and so on to try to get this to run. I specifically link this issue to my SC101’s drivers because when I relaunched WebDrive, the application would still launch, but I don’t see all the people above me having issues having one of these, so I may lean towards software-mounted artificial DVD/CD/Hard Drive units being the culprit.

For the developers; You may want to look into your drive detection code to see where the issue may be. While the SC101 is not the most common network drive on the world, it is used quite a bit.

I’m going to download Daemon here shortly and see if that breaks the launching of Aimersoft DVD Ripper.

In the meantime: Those having issues with a failure to launch: Disable any drive-emulation/drive-mounting applications (One at a time would suffice) to see if you can find your culprit.

Third post on GotD:

Okay all, here’s an extension to the previous two posts ( Those of you who are having launch issues, listen up :) )

It appears that if you have DAEMON up while you launch DVD Ripper (In my case) it appears that DVD Ripper simply shuts off. I disable DAEMON, it runs fine. Now, I don’t have an ISO to toss into DAEMON to try to see if it’ll do the same thing when there is something mounted into the DAEMON drive so I can’t state for that. I also can’t nail down Alcohol 120% or the other softwares, but I’ll assume that there will be similarities in DVD Ripper and its detection of media (It affected me with a SAN driver.) If you can’t get the application to run, disable all non-physical drive mounts and see if that helps you.

Let this be notice to Aimersoft. Hopefully we can have rectification to this issue by the end of day. While I can disable my SC101 drivers temporarily (or run a Virtual PC console for testing it,) I can not run without my SC101 for long. I’m sure most people don’t want to have to disable this or that to run it either.

Again, notice to those who are having launch issues: Disable temporarily any ‘virtually’ mounted drives such as DAEMON, Alcohol 120%, SAN drivers and so on.

Hope this helps some of you. :) Lets hope the developer gets back to us soon too.
