Hello all and welcome to another 15-Minute Review! Today’s title is Easy Macro Recorder version 3.65 by GoldSolution Software – A simple macro recording and playback application.

This is an update to a previously-reviewed title. The previous review for version 2.61 can be found here.

Software Description

As Giveaway of the Day states:

“Easy Macro Recorder is a handy utility that automates repetitive and tedious tasks on computers. It records all operation of mouse and keystrokes, and saves them as macros, then Easy Macro Recorder can play back the recorded macros to automate tasks any number of times. What’s more, there is an easy-to-use macro editor which can help you create new macros or edit an already created macros. Easy Macro Recorder works on any Windows applications.

Easy Macro Recorder is very easy to use, just two steps: record and playback. It doesn’t require any programming experience.”

Quick Pros

  • Simple to use from the system tray
  • Built-in macro editor
  • Ability to change macro once recorded
  • Ability to change hotkeys handy Changed since last version

Quick Cons

  • Not that quick to use because still opens ‘Open’/’Save As’ boxes (Hard to use in-game)
  • Macro editor too light to be much use besides small changes
  • Additional commands very thin
  • No form of triggering at all

Expansion

Not a significant number of changes since the previous version. Checking out What’s new listed on their site, you will find that only a handful of changes have been made to the application. Primarily, support for Windows Vista has been added, but more importantly the changes to the three hotkeys does make a big difference for this application. No longer do you have to worry about the F9-F11 keys conflicting with the application you’re currently using; You can choose which hotkeys you wish to use; A definite bonus indeed.

I do wish that there was the ability to assign a hotkey to specific macros, instead of having to load a macro each and every time. This would improve the functionality of this application significantly, in my opinion. As well, I do hope that down the road settings such as the macro playback speeds and other global options could become part of the macro themselves rather than part of the application as a whole.

Final Verdict

While the application hasn’t made significant changes, I do feel that the changes that have been made are moving in the positive direction. The biggest part stopping me from using this title previously was the fact that the hotkeys conflicted with many of the applications I use, so it is improving, though could be moving along a little quicker. As for free, this is definitely a title that people need to try out to see if it suits their needs. It isn’t broken, and it does function as intended; It just may not fit some people’s needs. As for paying $29.95, I still feel that this price is a hair steep, but with the improvements, to the right person, may be a lot better.
