Hello all and welcome to another 15-Minute Review! Today’s review is on PhotoToFilm version 2.7.1.67 by KC Softwares – An application to assist in converting your photos into a video slideshow.

Today’s review will be a quick review due to time constraints caused by the outage of Giveaway of the Day this morning.

Software Description

As Giveaway of the Day states:

“PhotoToFilm is the perfect companion for everyone who uses a digital camera. Thanks to PhotoToFilm you can easily make small movies out of your pictures and compress them (ie : using DivX) in order to distribute your production to your friends and relative. PhotoToFilm allows you to add professional looking effects in a few clicks and makes video authoring a game.”

Quick Pros

  • Quick to load
  • Interface is easy to use
  • Match audio functionality a good bonus for lining up with sound track
  • Dynamic pictures and cross-fading add a nice touch

Quick Cons

  • Help is a single video – Doesn’t explain many features
  • No DVD output support or otherwise – Would be another step (or another product)
  • Limited resolutions to three
  • Editing text a bit time consuming; No ‘quick’ interface
  • Slow to convert to video but bearable
  • Another case of needing another third-party title

Verdict

While I did find some of the application lacking, like a real helpfile that explains other features (instead you get just a video which doesn’t explain dynamic pictures, cross-fade use, etc.); Resolution selection pathetic with 3 resolutions (320×240, 640×480 and 720×576); And editing the on-video text is time-consuming with no quick way to do it, this application does shine in its final production; The application is truly easy to use with everything cleanly laid out in one window; The match audio button setting the time per picture for you as well as the nice effects provided by the dynamic pictures and cross-fading. It’s not as glorified as Wondershare Photo Story Platinum (Previously features on GaotD and reviewed here) however it does its job. For free, it isn’t a bad title if you didn’t get Wondershare Photo Story Platinum or find it is too much for you. As for paying for this title, $14.99 is not a bad price – The software functions and does its job adequately and may be worth it to those on more of a budget. I just wish these products wouldn’t have these attempts to sell an affiliate product to finish it’s job (DVD functionality for example.)
